Description

ARB705LB Orange Snatch Strap Recovery 30′ x 2 3/8″ (17500 LB)

4WD vehicle recovery is an inescapable element of driving off road. Preparing yourself for the inevitable before heading to the backcountry will ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for you and your passengers. ARB’s 4×4 recovery gear, including the ARB705LB, is engineered and manufactured to the highest standards, making it ideal for recreational use as well as competition.

An ARB705LB snatch strap, as the name suggests, is used to ‘snatch’ a vehicle that can no longer maintain forward momentum under its own power. ie. Bogged or unable to climb due to loss of traction, swamped in a water crossing, stuck on an obstacle or loss of power. A snatch strap is an elastic recovery device that stores kinetic energy and has the ability to stretch to a significant degree and return to its original length. This elasticity combined with the momentum of the recovery vehicle creates a ‘snatching’ effect that can extract a vehicle without shock loading the attachment points or vehicle.

Specifically designed to stretch under load for maximum performance, an ARB705LB ARB snatch strap is a highly effective method of extracting a bogged or immobilized 4WD when a second vehicle is present. The unique design of the strap allows it to stretch and return to its original length, aiding recovery and great reducing the likelihood of vehicle damage.

This ability to stretch is a distinction between a snatch strap and a tow strap, ARB snatch straps are elastic when under load whereas a tow strap is not, the benefits of which are twofold. Firstly, the kinetic energy generated by the elasticity actually aids the recovery itself, and secondly, the elasticity greatly reduces the likelihood of vehicle damage during recovery. The enormous weight of each 4×4 and the weighted force of whatever caused the immobilization puts enormous strain on the point where the straps are attached, and without some elasticity, there is a substantial risk of damaging the vehicle. For vehicle recovery, a snatch strap is more suitable than a tow strap.

When choosing a snatch strap for use, it is recommended that the strap has a minimum breaking strength (MBS) of between two to three times the vehicle’s gross vehicle mass (GVM). When using a snatch strap to recover a stranded vehicle, the MBS should be suited to the GVM of the lighter of the two vehicles involved in the recovery process. If the GVM is not stated on the identification plate or registration certificate of the vehicle, consult the owner’s handbook or vehicle manufacturer. It is important that the correctly rated snatch strap is used. If a strap with a too heavy breaking strength is used on a light vehicle, the desired stretch may not be achieved and more stress will be placed on the recovery points.

When the only thing preventing your vehicle from imminent danger is a narrow fabric strap, nothing but the best will do. Don’t trust your vehicle to substandard recovery gear that could jeopardize your safety and your vehicle. Likewise, make sure you’re using appropriate equipment for your situation. The old adage “the right tool for the job” can certainly be applied to vehicle recovery. For every situation, there is an article of recovery gear specifically designed to handle the task – from snatch straps to exhaust jacks.

ARB supplies snatch straps in 8000kg (17,500lb), 11,000kg (24,000lb) and 15,000kg (33,000lb) minimum breaking strength (MBS). ARB snatch straps are manufactured from 100% nylon webbing and feature reinforced eyes for additional durability.

Notes to Users!

Persons intending to use the strap must ensure that the strap is not damaged and in a usable condition. The strap’s strength and stretch are reduced when the strap is saturated.
An ARB recovery damper, heavy bag or blanket must be draped over the strap during use to reduce any unintentional rebound of the strap.
While a recovery is being performed, only the persons involved in the recovery should be in either of the vehicles.
All other persons should be situated at a safe distance (1.5 times the length of the strap is recommended) from either of the vehicles involved in the recovery process and to the side of the line of the recovery.
Persons involved in the recovery process must:
a) Be kept at a safe distance (1.5 times the length of the strap is recommended) from either of the vehicles involved in the recovery process, to the side of the line of the recovery.
b) NEVER situate themselves within the path of the vehicle performing the recovery.

WARNING
Always follow product instructions. It is important to correctly attach the vehicle recovery strap to a motor vehicle. A standard tow ball or vehicle tie down point is not designed for this purpose and may result in the strap or a vehicle component detaching from a motor vehicle and striking and seriously injuring or killing a person. Only attach the strap to a vehicle recovery point or device that is suitably rated for use with the strap. Incorrect use has previously resulted in serious
injury and death.

HISTORY

The origins of ARB can be traced back to Australia’s remote Top End, circa 1975. A region of vast distances and rugged terrain, it was fast becoming a Mecca for the nation’s burgeoning 4WD community. However, the very environment that attracted 4 wheelers also wreaked havoc on their equipment – when driving in extreme conditions, only the best 4×4 accessories will do.  This was the conclusion drawn by Tony Brown during his travels at the time. While exploring the treasures of the Top End, the skills Tony gained from working on his Land Rover were regularly called on to mend damaged bull bars and broken roof racks. Bar work back then was crude, not at all suited to overland touring, and through this experience an idea was born – high quality equipment that met the vigorous demands of 4WD owners.  Upon returning to Melbourne, Tony put theory into practice via the family garage, where he sought to address the product deficiencies he’d encountered. His vision called for a combination of sound design principles and reliable raw materials… a simple solution to an endemic problem. The concept was embraced when it hit the fledgling 4×4 market, and ARB – the initials of Anthony Ronald Brown – was founded.Today, ARB is Australia’s largest manufacturer and distributor of 4×4 accessories. We also have an international presence, with an office in the US and an export network that extends through more than 80 countries around the globe. Our philosophy, however, has never wavered from its original course – quality, reliability and practicality above all else.
