Kind of like a bad dream, the Center Axle Disconnect (CAD) is back for the JL Wrangler / JT Gladiator after being mercifully absent from multiple previous Jeep models. The CAD system’s purpose is to improve fuel economy by reducing drag…we’ll let the customer do their own research and determine whether that’s actually the case or not, especially when weighing the negligible fuel economy benefits against compromises in strength and reliability.

Whether you are a fan of the CAD design or not, it’s here to stay. And while it remains to be determined just how reliable the CAD system is on the JL, one thing is for certain: it’s not going to work for long if it’s repeatedly hit against rocks and other trail obstacles. The factory provides a thin stamped steel skid plate, but it doesn’t offer much in the way of real protection for the mechanism. Positioned low on the front axle, the CAD mechanism is very vulnerable and not adequately protected for real off-road use. Rusty’s CAD Skid Plate is constructed of 1/4″ thick laser-cut steel that is then CNC formed for an exact fit. It installs easily using four existing bolt locations, so installation is easy. Designed to take lots of trail punishment, Rusty’s CAD Skid Plate is essential for any JL/JT that sees time in the dirt.

Moab, Rubicon, Tellico, Wind Rock, and Jeep Jamboree events around the country have been regular stomping grounds for the Rusty’s Off Road Testing Crew over the years. Many parts have been run and tested in some of the most grueling off road races and rallies and with this abuse and testing you can be assured you will be getting the very best part built.

Growing from that 2 bay shop to this over 65,000 you think there is no way we will run out of room, well just as soon as we finished our latest construction, we quickly found out how quickly they will fill up. We have worked hard to keep things organized and invested hours in setting up the shipping dept to get parts shipped as fast as we can.

We are constantly investing in new and upgraded equipment that allows us to build better products more efficiently and with a greater degree of accuracy than ever before. Rusty’s has invested in multiple new laser machines, multiple CNC machines, a pair of CNC press breaks, welding robots and much more in order to keep pace with our sales growth and new products production. In-house manufacturing allows us to maintain a level of quality control that could never be matched when outsourcing production.
