FAQ

Can I mount Brushless on my current ARB compressor bracket?
Brushless compressors have a smaller overall footprint, because of this, they have a different mounting
bolt pattern to ARB’s existing compressors. ARB has vehicle specific mounting brackets in
development for popular applications.

Can I re-use my current compressor wiring loom?
Due to the brushless technology inside, there is no longer a need for relays in the wiring loom, because
of this, a new loom has been developed and comes with each brushless compressor. With the high
performance nature of the Brushless compressor, the gauge of wiring has been increased to provide
power to the brushless in the most efficient manner. Because of these changes you cannot use an
existing wiring loom with the Brushless compressors.

BRUSHED compressor V BRUSHLESS compressor
Brushed motors use brushes and a commutator to transfer electrical current to the rotor, making them
simpler and less expensive but requiring more maintenance due to wear. In contrast, brushless motors
eliminate brushes and use electronic controllers to manage current flow, resulting in higher efficiency
and lower maintenance requirements.

Single compressor v twin compressor
Simply, A single compressor is constructed of one compressor providing an air supply, which can be
simpler and less costly, Ideal for fitment in vehicle’s that do not have much space. In contrast, a twin
compressor system employs two compressors, working in tandem, to provide a greater volume of air
and efficiency. This setup is ideal for those that have big tires, a trailer and other high volume air
needs.

Where can I mount my compressor?
There are several locations 4WDers fit on-board air compressors depending on space allocation and
vehicle setup. Common locations include engine bays, and under seats. Anywhere with a flat surface
and suitable support for the weight of the compressor with do!

Does the Compressor support an Air Locker?
Yes, ARB offer a variety of fittings to connect and operate an Air Locker system with a Brushless
compressor.

Is my compressor waterproof?
The ARB Brushless is IP67 water resistant, meaning it can be briefly fully submerged, keep in mind
that being an air compressor, it does suck in air therefore it needs a remote intake fitted.

Why Does my compressor get hot?
Compressors get hot when they operate over a long period of time due to the internal friction. The ARB
Brushless, being the most efficient and powerful compressor on the market takes a long time to heat
up. However, the inbuilt fan will help to maintain stable operating temperatures.

Why is my compressor noisy?
Brushless compressors include an innovative speed controller allowing much greater air output by
revving faster, and higher the revs, = higher noise, AND higher performance.

What fittings do I need to mount the compressor?
Included with the brushless is a quick release bracket and mounting hardware. Enabling you to mount
the brushless to any flush surface. Note: The mounting footprint is different from ARB’s brushed range.

Why does my twin start one motor at a time?
Brushless twin compressors include smart-start technology. A staggered “Power-On” reduces the power
spike at start up allowing brushless twins to start up on vehicles with smaller electrical charging systems.

What happens if I have low voltage in my battery?
As an inbuilt part of the brushless twin compressor’s programming, it will shut down just one of its two
motors to keep pumping on a vehicle charging system that has become too drained to still support twin
compressor levels of output. That keeps you pumping in adverse conditions.
