Description

A diff drop kit is an important part of a suspension lift.  Lifting a newer Tacoma, FJ Cruiser, or 4Runner increases the angles on the CV joints and boots, which accelerates wear. These solid aircraft-grade 6061-T6 aluminum spacers and zinc-plated Grade 8 hardware move the front differential down an inch and puts the CV angels back to where they should be. We even provide aluminum spacers and longer zinc-plated Class 8.8 bolts to move the stock skid plate down.

This Drop Kit Fits the following applications:

  • Toyota Tacoma 2005-2023 (All Engines)
  • Toyota FJ Cruiser 2007-2014 (All Engines)
  • Toyota 4Runner 2003-2024 (All Engines)
  • Lexus GX470 (all years)
  • Lexus GX460 (all years)
  • Toyota Hilux Vigo (all years)
  • Toyota Hilux Revo (all years)
  • Toyota Fortuner (all years

Why should I use one?  When lifting a 4×4 vehicle, the CV angles will be increased.  This puts more angle on your CV boots as well, and when the bellows of the CV boot constantly touch each other, that friction will cause them to wear out faster and most likely wear through faster.  Having a torn CV boot is a pain in the next to replace and also quite a messy job too, so reducing the CV angles with a good Drop Kit in place will help alleviate some of the angles when lifted.

Is there another reason to add a differential drop kit?  Yes, some longer travel front struts, such as some that Dobinsons offer, reach to an extended length that the CV joints can actually start to bind when they are at full droop.  This will cause extreme wear on your CV joints themselves very quickly whenever the strut is at full droop.  Adding a diff drop kit normally alleviates this issue and allows you to have the additional droop, while not causing the CV’s to bind.  This reason here is the the MAIN REASON why Exit Offroad recommends a diff drop kit when using longer travel front struts, as it’s a lot less expense than replacing both front CV axles due to broken CV’s.

Dobinsons offer a front sway bar drop kit for Tacoma’s that’s also recommended when lifting: https://exitoffroad.com/product/dobinsons-tacoma-front-swaybar-drop-bracket-kit/
